Department of Art and Design Class Speaker Funds Form

Class Speakers contribute intellectually, culturally or otherwise to the University of Memphis academic community. The Department of Art and Design welcomes local outside guest speakers to the classroom (in-person or virtual) with demonstrated expertise in art and design.

Class Speaker Funds Request
The Department of Art and Design class speaker funds request is due the first day of classes each semester.

Class Speaker Funds Budget
The Department of Art and Design allocates department funds to offer a total of $4,000 in class speaker funds per academic year ($2,000 per semester). Requested funds will be limited to $200 per speaker. To ensure that speakers are spread across the department areas, instructors are encouraged to apply for a number of class speakers, but may only be granted one speaker per class and two speakers (different courses) total per semester. Applicants whose requests are not approved for the fall may reapply for the spring. If the $2,000 fall semester limit is not met, then the funds carry forward to the spring semester. No class speaker will be supported that does not comply with the department class speaker funds policies and procedures. Unused academic year class speaker funds will be reallocated to other department priorities.

Class Speaker Cancellations
In the event that a class speaker is cancelled for any reason, the funds will be returned to the class speaker funds budget.

Class Speaker Funds Distribution
The department Business Officer will work with the instructor and class speaker on payment, once approved.
