You are being asked to participate in a research study. Charles Ratcliff of the University of Memphis, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is in charge of the study, guided by Sarah Warren, PhD.
The objectives of this research are to determine (1) how often voice difficulties occur for singers in charismatic churches and (2) the factors that cause voice symptoms. You are being invited to participate because you are a singing member of a Christian church which relies on signs of the spirit (or spiritual gifts).
Should you agree to participate you will be asked to complete a 40-item survey. Your participation should take about 20 minutes. Participating in this study is completely voluntary and if you decide to participate now, you may change your mind and stop at any point. You may choose not to continue with the survey or receive any future information about the line of research.
As a participant in this research study, there may not be any direct benefits for you. There are no foreseeable risks involved in participating in this study other than those encountered in day-to-day life.
You will not be paid for taking part in this study.
If you have questions about the research you may contact Sarah Warren at swarren8@memphis.edu. If you have questions about your rights as a research subject please contact the University of Memphis Institutional Review Board at 901.678.2705.
