You are being asked to participate in a
survey research project. As such, we would like you to have an understanding of
the following:
1. The
purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding about your perceptions
regarding your favorite intercollegiate athletics team’s rival.
2. You
MUST BE at least 18 years of age to participate in the study.
3. You
will complete a survey that asks about your identification with your favorite
team, perceptions of your rival team, and identify your likelihood to consider
anonymous acts of aggression toward rival participants and fans for the rival
in your team’s previous and current conference.
4. There
are no foreseeable risks associated with your participation in this research.
However, you are free to discontinue participation in the study at any time
without penalty or loss of benefits. You may also freely decline to answer any
of the questions asked of you.
5. Your participation in this study does not
guarantee any beneficial results. You
will have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a chance to win one of two $25
VISA Gift Cards. The number of raffle
participants impacts individual odds of winning, however, it is expected that
participant odds will not reach 5% probability.
6. The
responses that you provide today will be kept completely confidential. At no
time will your name or any other identifying information be associated with any
of the data that you generate today. In addition, the researcher will never
identify you personally in any report of this research. Within these
restrictions, results of the study will be made available to you upon request.
Although your individual responses will not be made public (i.e., they will
remain confidential), your data will be combined with the data of others and
submitted for presentation at conventions and/or publication in scholarly
journals.
7. If
you have questions about the research project, please direct them to Dr. Cody
Havard in Kemmons Wilson School 140M. You can contact him by phone Monday through Friday from 8:30
